The second “work” of the community, and its second pillar is communicating the Gospel. The Gospel itself is indeed the Good News, the precious treasure, the light that cannot be hidden, which we can and must share with other people. The Gospel is not a possession: it is a gift that we are called to share and thus the responsibility for the members of the community to communicate the Good News to others.
In Sant’Egidio’s experience to be disciples one must live and share the Gospel. As written in the gospel according to Luke, when the 72 came back full of joy saying: “Lord”, they said, “even the devils submit to us when we use your name” (Lk. 10: 17), it is an experience of joy and celebration. It is the experience of each disciple and of each one in the Community of Sant’Egidio, which has led, during these years, to our living a “missionary brotherhood” in many parts of the world.
