On Thanksgiving Day, over 125 people gathered at the Church of the Epiphany in New York City to celebrate with Sant’Egidio. As is our tradition, it was a beautiful moment to share as friends and family do all over the country. In the same way we celebrate Christmas and Easter together, these moments are icons of how we wish the whole world were – persons from all backgrounds coming together in friendship as one people.
To be sure that nobody was left alone, three teams also visited friends throughout Lower Manhattan, bringing with them meals and personal connection.
We heard words of personal difficulty, but also hope, solidarity, and new beginnings. The stories of unexpected friendships were recounted and reminded all of us how possible it is to live in a different world.
