Rome – Friday, August 5th, the 9:30 am, in the square of the Pantheon in Rome, on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the tragedy of Hiroshima, the board ‘Earth and Peace’, for the 19th consecutive year hosts a celebration in memory of that tragic event that leaves an open wound in the history of the 20th century. The event is organized with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President of the Republic, the Presidents of the House and of the Senate of the region of Rome and of Lazio.
This year, the acknowledgement “Earth and Peace” (a fossil three million years old and a symbol of the birth of life on this planet), will be given by President Athos de Luca to the Community of Sant’Egidio, represented by Cecilia Pani, to the Federation of Evangelical Italian Churches, represented by vice-president Cristiane Grueben, and to the Waldesian Table, represented by Pastor Luca Anziani, for the international initiative and great work of the Humanitarian Corridors; a concrete example of a humane response to the phenomena of migration of thousands of men and women forced to flee their lands in order to survive war and hunger.
At the end of the event, Minister Hiroschi Yamauchi of the Japanese Embassy, the representatives of the various institutions involved will have a moment to meet at which time a letter from the the President of the Republic and the Presidents of the House and Senate will be read. The President of the Board of Earth and Peace, Athos de Luca, will oversee the honors of the events.
