The end of this year is accompanied by the inauguration of the Jubilee of Hope. Pope Francis opened the Holy Door at St. Peter’s and then, in a rare and precious gesture, in the Rebibbia prison in Rome.

Opening the door of Hope is the gesture that the Community of Sant’Egidio made at Christmas around the world, to welcome a humanity of women and men who are alone, poor, and in search of hope. Doors were opened from Chicago to Beira, in the basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, in prisons, in nursing homes and even in Kyiv  (find out more about the Global Christmas Lunch

Our world is desperately in need for Peace. From our brothers and sisters in Kyiv, to our cities here in the United States, the world is stained with the tragedies and loneliness. Our community seeks to be a beacon of Hope amidst that sorrow.

The conclusion of renovation of the House of Solidarity allowed for the start of our English classes, marking a new beginning for our Community. 


We continue our Tuesday and Sunday outreach to the homeless and faithfully serve 400 men and women each week. This year, we took a trip to Ellis Island with some of our Friends. 


Our School of Peace continues to grow; including an expansion to include a new Middle School program! We look forward to another full year together, including our cherished summer excursions. 


This year, several high schoolers joined in our weekly services to the elderly allowing inter-generational friendships to form, which are a gift to everyone!
